A high-contrast, gritty monochrome profile designed to echo the iconic GRII look – now tuned for the X100VI.

Black Static GR is a high‑contrast black and white recipe for Fujifilm X-series cameras, designed to recreate the bold, gritty look of the Ricoh GR II High Contrast B&W mode.

If you shoot street, architecture, or urban documentary work, this recipe delivers deep shadows, crisp edges, and a graphic monochrome style straight-out-of-camera. It’s built for the X100VI (X‑Trans 5), but the aesthetic holds across the wider Fujifilm system.

I developed Black Static GR through controlled, EXIF‑matched comparisons between the GR II and the X100VI, tuning highlights, shadow roll‑off, and micro‑contrast until the recipe behaved in the same way to the GRii.

The two cameras (Fujifilm x100vi and Ricoh GRii) are very different when it comes to in-camera Jpeg processing. The Fujifilm X-Trans5 sensor wants to optimise dynamic range, bringing out as much detail from the shadows as possible. I found it almost impossible to crank up the contrast to the same extreme level as the Ricoh. But, I think it gets close, and the recipe now seems consistent in mimicking the GR across a range of conditions.

The recipe excels in harsh daylight, overcast industrial scenes, and night street photography — anywhere contrast and texture matter.

Below you’ll find the full settings, example images, and side‑by‑side comparisons showing how closely this profile matches the original GR II look.
